Follow along as we answer the most commonly asked questions about Enlighten teeth whitening.

  • How white will my teeth get?

Enlighten is the only brand on the market that guarantees whitening to a minimum of shade B1 (the lightest natural colour) for 98% of patients regardless of their age, diet, and current tooth shade.

  • Do I have to visit a dentist for Enlighten?

Yes, in the UK all professional teeth whitening treatments have to be supervised by a dentist.

  • Will my veneers, crowns, or composite fillings change colour?

Unfortunately not. Only natural teeth respond to teeth whitening. This is why our Crouch End dentists recommend you get your teeth whitening treatment out of the way first and then consider having any cosmetic work done which can be matched to your newly whitened teeth.

  • Is teeth whitening safe?

Yes, when in the hands of our Crouch End Dentists. Every aspect of your teeth whitening treatment is carefully controlled to ensure optimal outcome and safety. However, to be on the safe side, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, we would probably recommend that you wait.

  • Does teeth whitening hurt?

All patients are given a thorough oral examination beforehand to ensure they don’t have cavities or tender gums which can otherwise cause teeth whitening discomfort. As a result, any sensitivity felt during and after treatment should be at best non-existent, and at worst minimal.

Not all whitening is the same – we only use the best here at Crouch Hall Dental Care

At Crouch Hall Dental Care we only use products and techniques that guarantee results. So, when a patient wants to whiten their teeth, we only want to offer a product that will do exactly that. This is why we use the Enlighten tooth whitening system for patients in Crouch End.

There are many different teeth whitening systems available and in order to select the best the team at Crouch Hall Dental Care tested a variety of brands. By doing so, we discovered that not all tooth whitening systems are equal and we found superior results with Enlighten. We exclusively offer Enlighten Whitening here at Crouch Hall Dental Care, because our patients deserve the very best.

With Enlighten, we can guarantee that your smile will reach B1, which is the lightest naturally occurring tooth shade. The system also offers protection against tooth sensitivity, which can be a side effect with other brands of tooth whitening, and we noticed the result lasted much longer. We are so passionate about the effectiveness of this whitening system that we have been given the status of being an Enlighten Whitening Regional Centre of Excellence.

Non-vital whitening

Did you know that we can treat dark teeth with a special whitening technique?

Sometimes teeth can darken following a root canal procedure. This is very common and happens because the tooth is classed as ‘non-vital’, which means the nerve inside has died. This darkening has no detrimental effect on the function of the tooth, but many patients find it aesthetically unappealing and would like to do something about it.

In these cases, we can carry out a treatment called non-vital tooth whitening, which is where we treat the single tooth by whitening it from the inside out. Regular tooth whitening works by placing whitening gel on the outside of the tooth, however in these cases we apply the gel to the inside of the tooth, or the back of the tooth. This is a procedure that can only be carried out by your dentist during an in-practice appointment.

The results of non-vital whitening can usually be seen a few days after your appointment, and in some cases you may need multiple treatments to remove all of the darker colour. During your initial consultation your dentist will be able to explain how many sessions they expect you to require.

How does teeth whitening work?

Whitening teeth is a simple process and yet it’s so effective.

All teeth whitening systems involve the use of either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide which act as a bleaching agent. Tooth enamel contains microscopic pores enabling the bleaching gel to penetrate the tooth surface where it breaks the stain molecules into smaller pieces making them less concentrated so that your teeth look brighter. While it won’t make your teeth brilliant white, it will lighten them by several shades, although to what extent depends on the colour your teeth were in the first place.

Although teeth whitening in Crouch End works for the majority of people we will need to assess your teeth to ensure they are suitable for teeth whitening and to discuss your best options.

Why should I whiten my teeth?

Unfortunately, teeth stain with age as the enamel thins and the darker dentine below shows through.

Lifestyle habits such as smoking, enjoying a cup of first thing in the morning to kick-start the day, our love of curries and socialising with friends over a glass of wine, all contribute to stained teeth that can make your smile look dull and unloved.

We offer Enlighten whitening system and will be happy to talk patients through the treatment to help them decide if this is best for them.

In-chair whitening produces the fastest results because it utilises stronger concentrations of bleaching gel. Take-home kits on the other hand work more gradually. Many of our patients like to combine both treatments and utilise their custom take-home trays to touch up their whiteness when needed.

Teeth whitening can also be used in conjunction with other cosmetic dental treatments including smile makeovers, veneers, bonding, orthodontics, and dental crowns.

Our Crouch End dentist also offers Non-Vital Bleaching, a procedure that is required to correct a tooth that has turned dark following root canal treatment. The whitening agent is injected into the tooth and once it has reached a desired shade of whiteness, it’s removed and the tooth is sealed off with dental composite resin.

Teeth whitening here in Crouch End brings back a more youthful appearance while also giving you that extra boost of confidence.
